Level 3 Diploma in Kennel and Cattery Management

Enrol Today and Pay No Course Fees Until July 2022!

Cattery and Kennel Managers are employed by private boarding, quarantine, and charitable organisations to oversee the day-to-day running of the business.

The role of a Kennel manager can vary greatly and depends on the size and type of business or organisation.

There are additional roles when working for an animal charity and these include; re-homing, behavioural assessments, health checks, ensuring enrichment for animals in long term care and more.

Cats and dogs staying in a boarding environment are entirely reliant on the organisation’s staff for cleaning, feeding, stimulation and their general wellbeing. Good cattery and kennel staff will attend to individual problems and needs.

The Level 3 Diploma in Kennel and Cattery Management is an Ofqual regulated qualification which meets the Higher Standard Animal Activity Licensing requirements.

This 8-unit qualification covers a wide knowledge base including: canine and feline behaviour, care of canines and felines in boarding establishments, management styles and techniques, animal welfare legislation and safe handling and transportation techniques.

The qualification looks at different management styles that may be used in running a kennel and cattery establishment; and the legislation that owners of boarding kennels and catteries are required to understand.

Developing your Career

There are several options for those wishing to further their studies. Learners can progress on to the Level 4 Diploma in Canine Welfare, Training and Behaviour, the Level 5 Diploma Canine Behaviour Practitioner, and the Level 6 Diploma in Applied Canine Behaviour Management.

Often, once someone has worked as a Kennel Manager, they can go on to run their own small animal business. It is crucial to have some business experience or training as well as hands on experience of working with dogs before setting up your own kennel business.
